Someone You Loved written by Lewis Capaldi released in 2018. Simple yet catchy vocals made the song go viral. My initial objective is to bring intricacy and energy to the composition by adding orchestral instruments. Initial arrangement and recording were done in MIDI, and then I had professional string players and percussionists cooperate on performing the MIDI recordings I had recorded.

The mixing of this piece was far more complicated than the arrangement. There were more than 50 layers of audio tracks for different instruments and variations. Individually mixing for all tracks was essential to ensure the frequency balance. The DAW I used for mixing was Ableton Live. It provides premium quality effects and studio quality plugins. Especially those realistic hall reverbs I added to the strings. Due to the dense texture and layers of the mix, I had to pay close attention to the frequency spectrum in case instruments overlapped and caused undesired frequency peaks.

After volume and panning adjustments, the tracks were mastered in stereo. Going through the final equalizer and multiband-compressor. The arrangement was ready for publication.
